Something awesome is going to happen

The Ether is Real

What happens when you combine “24″, “The X-Files”, and an amazing writer who really knows his supernatural horror? You get ETHE(r)eal, the latest brainchild of Eric Wallace, writer for Sci-Fi’s “Eureka” and DC Comics “FCA:INK” and “Titans”. When Eric started talking to us about the ETHE(r)eal concept we couldn’t wait to get started on the project.

But what is it?

ETHE(r)eal is a story concept that combines conspiracy, science, mysticism, the afterlife, and a protagonist named Bodie Taylor who just happens to live in Portland and is an expert on cryptolinguistics. But what is The Ether, who are the Travelers, and what does Purusha Ventures want from Bodie? Over the next few months, you’ll find out! Right now the site houses character biographies, series artwork that will become an online comic this fall, and a Twitter feed for an online novella that takes place in the ETHE(r)eal world. The comic features illustrations by Paul Azaceta, and the comic interface will be designed specifically for online reading. We’ll also be adding webisodes, character testimonials, the pilot episode script, and more!

A technology mashup

It’s been a fantastic creative project, engaging design, development, animation, and online communication strategy skills. The site runs on Wordpress, and the general structure is based on the F8-Lite theme from Graph Paper Press. We’ve heavily customized the look and feel for ETHE(r)eal, and plan to keep tweaking the interface as the site grows and changes. Between Flash video, Twitter, Wordpress plugins, and the eventual integration of Vimeo, YouTube, and possibly BlipTV there are still lots of tools to add to the site.

Collaborating with a creative writer with a clear vision for the work is a rare pleasure, and reading the script and seeing the illustrations have made the world of ETHE(r)eal come alive. Even though we’ve read the script, we can’t wait to see what happens next!
