What started as a group conversation over coffee about the relevance of awards shows, professional organizations, and the establishment turned into a keen interest in organizing a multi-day convergence of events that would help Portland’s many voices to rise above the fray and be heard. These voices are those of the New Communicators, and they’re already evolving the way conversations happen. Isn’t it time we all listened and joined in?
Who should be involved? As stated on the New Communicators site:
- If you disseminate your point-of-view through your craft to an audience via digital channels or otherwise, you should participate.
- If you are a individual, group or company with a unique perspective on the current state of human interaction, you should participate.
- If you provide goods or services and have discovered inventive ways to sell and promote your wares, you should participate.
- If you are an organization who already holds regular meetings and want to share in the evolution of conversation, hold a meeting the week of the event.
Planning for a city-wide convergence of events on October 28–30 is in the works, with a Q&A session held at Substance on September 1. If you can’t make it to the Q&A, please feel free to ask me what this is all about. Without you, this crazy plan doesn’t work.
Why am I involved? Because I need to do something about sharing how interaction, conversation, and the experience of community are changing in Portland. I can’t talk about how others don’t “get it” if I don’t make an effort to help them understand what I already believe. I can’t be part of evolving the conversation if I don’t pull you into it, too. I’m excited to see what this city will bring to the event, and I look forward to learning from smart people.
Go learn more about the New Communicators. Tweet it, share it, write about it, send smoke signals – communicate it your way, but let people know!
Sounds excellent! I will be at the Jive World Conference October 27-29, so unfortunately, won’t be able to make it. Bummed.
