Chuck Mallott’s Five Principles of Good Design
Have you ever been asked to explain how your design skills are better than those of a high school kid with some HTML skills and Photoshop? Or maybe you had a client who wasn’t willing to pay you a fair market rate for your expertise because “anyone” can design a web site? How do you explain that design is more than software? How do you talk about the value of good design?
Chuck Mallot of Oaktree Creative explains good design through his list of five design principles.
I like that Mr. Mallot’s list is about visual design and communication, not just high-level concepts of strategy and user experience. Too many would-be designers (or clients) think that software skills = design skills. If only it were that easy! So, thank you, Mr. Mallot, for articulating the value experienced and trained designers bring to the work we do.
